 *Son means both sound and sawdust in French. However, poupée de son is instantly recognized by French speakers as a doll made of wood shavings, even though the connotation of sound is probably present somewhere.  

**The French here, Pour un oui pour un nom, sounds very much like Pour un oui pour un non, which litterally is for a yes for no, or "for any reason at all." In this case, the suggestion is that a name, in the context of a casual introduction, for instance, is sufficient. This is really a very subtle, and clever, play on words. 

The version of this song that France Gall sang at Eurovision has two verses that Gainsbourg did not include in Mon propre rôle. They are as follows: 

Je n'suis qu'une poupée de cire
Qu'une poupée de son
Sous le soleil de mes cheveux blonds
Poupée de cire poupée de son

Mais un jour je vivrai mes chansons
